Here is a not-too-long mathematical analysis of why your vote truly does matter.

Or you can just take my word for it.  I won my seat on City Council by 12 votes.  (Remember, not only is Indiana a swing state this year for the Presidential election, but we have the opportunity to elect Jill Long Thompson as our next Governor, Mike Montagano as our next Congressman, and some great Democrats to County seats.  These folks won't get elected without your vote.)

I'm good either way - just make sure that you do it.

Frankly speaking, Mr. Souder

Today I received a letter from the office of Congressman Mark Souder.  It tells of all the wonderful things he has done for me.

Even nicer, he used TAXPAYER dollars for this little reminder, 4 days before the election, that he is such a wonderful congressman.

Shine strikes out...

Steve Shine takes issue with my recent complaint about Dan Turkette stealing my website and trying to use it to raise money for the GOP in a letter to the Editor that appears in tonight's News Sentinel:

Please be advised that the Allen County Republican Party, other than being a client of TEK Interactive, has no relationship with the company's principal, Dan Turkette. Turkette is not and has not been a member of the Allen County Republican Central Committee, a fact that you represented in your letter to me and released to the media (even before I received the same). To that end, I expect you to send a letter to anyone that received your original letter correcting your error and misinformation

Here is my response:

Dear Mr. Shine,

Mr. Turkette is a Precinct Committeman for the Allen County Republican party.

I think that qualifies as a relationship to your party, don't you?

How about the fact that for years TEK provided, at no cost, website design and hosting services to the ACRP- and only stopped when I pointed out it was a campaign finance violation for them to do so?

How about the fact that Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman had him blog the Governor's state of the state address LIVE from her office?

Nice to see he is not connected in any way to your organization.

Fort Wayne Censored

Fort Wayne Observed's Mitch Harper has decided to censor my latest comment on his blog.

In a recent post, Mitch wrote:

Transparency in government is not a slogan. It needs to be actively practiced.  

A stepped-up schedule of public appearances is not the same as transparency.

To which I responded along the lines of:

And Council members of ONE political party should not meet in "caucus" to decide who will get council appointments.

Apparently, that one hit a little too close to home.

Signs that things are really bad for the GOP

I just received a fundraising letter from the RNC and Sarah Palin.  If they are asking me for money, things must be really, really bad.

County Commissioners want more outsourcing

I was more than a little shocked to read in today's JG that Nelson Peters wants to outsource more work that can easily be done in with current city/county employees.

The issue is in regards to combining the 911 call centers.

The commissioners, however, said they needed more time to discuss whether the employees should work for the city, county or a third entity. Commissioner Nelson Peters said it was important to maintain neutrality in the new department, and he even suggested hiring a third-party company to manage payroll and human relations for the joint dispatch. Commissioner Bill Brown also questioned some of the organization of the joint department.

There is no reason that this cannot be worked out without outsourcing- just like the city/county have done with Land Planning, Homeland Security and other departments.

• 11:45 a.m., SENATOR EVAN BAYH, Campaign for Change Office, 904 South Calhoun - come for the rally, then head out to do some canvassing

• LAST SATURDAY TO EARLY VOTE 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., City County Building, One Main Street

SUNDAY, NOV. 2:  PUT THE TV INTO GOTV

• Watch the Montagano debate at 11 a.m., WANE-TV (Broadcast 15, Comcast & FIOS 2), in the comfort of your jammies
• Put on some clothes and head over to either the ACDP HQ or Campaign for Change office to help with phone banking or canvassing

MONDAY, NOV. 3:  MORE GOTV

• Come to the Campaign for Change office (904 South Calhoun) anytime to help with phone calls and canvassing
• LAST

DAY TO EARLY VOTE - and ONLY UNTIL NOON (City County Building, One Main Street)

If you haven't already, please sign up at the Campaign for Change office or ACDP HQ to work a shift on Election Day.

TUESDAY, NOV. 4:  ELECTION DAY!

• If you haven't voted already, VOTE in your precinct.  Don't know where that is?  Go here.
• Do whatever you can do to help bring us the CHANGE WE NEED.
• Come to the Election Night party at the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Hall, 2930 Ludwig Road, starting at 6:30.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 5:  Let's make this the day we begin the real work of improving the lives of all Americans.  DON'T MAKE IT THE DAY YOU REGRET THAT YOU DIDN'T DO EVERYTHING YOU COULD TO HELP ELECT BARACK OBAMA, JILL LONG THOMPSON, MIKE MONTAGANO, and our other great Democrats.
